- Bishop Ibrahim N. Ibrahim: Anniversary Celebration from Mother of God Chaldean Cathedral
Many U.S. Catholics are Roman Catholic, but in the Detroit area, at least, there is a healthy number of both Maronite and Chaldean Catholics. Both of these rites are in communion with Rome. The Detroit metropolitan area has the largest Chaldean community in the U.S.
His Excellency Bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim was celebrating his 30th anniversary as a bishop, he was also celebrating his 50th anniversary as a priest and the Rite was celebrating the 30th anniversary of the diocese.
The Mass was celebrated in modern Aramaic and Arabic, so the help Fr. Mathew Zetouna and Vanessa Denha Garmo was enlisted to translate. Fr. Matthew is a newly ordained priest – just six months old. He is Parochial Vicar of Holy Martyrs Church in Sterling Heights. Vanessa is an experienced radio newswoman and newspaper publisher.
This celebration Mass is presented not only to honor Bishop Ibrahim and the diocese, but also to provide information that would be difficult to obtain elsewhere.
