Gospel Presentaton: Heart to Herat

Gospel Presentation: Heart to Heart (1/22/14)

  1. We need to be saved from the problem of sin and death

  • Isaiah 53:6   “We all like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way.”

  • Proverbs 14:12   “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end leads to death.”

  • Romans 2:23   “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

  • Romans 5:12   “Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin,   and so death spread to all men because all men sinned.”

  • Romans 6:23  “The wages of sin is death…”

  • Romans 14:12 “Each of us shall give account of himself to God.”

  • Hebrews 9:27 “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

What is sin? “Man, tempted by the devil, let his trust in his Creator die in his heart and, abusing his freedom, disobeyed God's command. This is what man's first sin consisted of… In that sin man preferred himself to God and by that very act scorned him. He chose himself over and against God, against the requirements of his creaturely status and therefore against his own good” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, nos. 397, 398).

  1. You cannot save yourself

  • John 3:3 “Unless one is born again he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.”

  • Titus 3:5   “He saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy.”

  • James 2:10   “Whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of the whole law.”

  • John 14:6   “I am the way , the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me.”

  1. Jesus has provided for your salvation

  • I Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all.”

  • 1 Peter 3:18 “For Christ died also for sins, once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God.”

  • 1 John 2:2 “And he is the expiation for our sins, but not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

  • 1 John 3:5   “He appeared to take away sin.”

  • John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

  • 1 John 5:11 “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who has not the Son of God does not have life.”
